There has been an ongoing problem with the site where if you went to an invalid URL you would not get a 404 error. Instead, the index page would attempt to load, not loading up any images, keeping the URL as it were (messed up) and totally hosing everything.
i found the culprit in my htaccess file and the problem is fixed. I reckon it shouldn't have taken me this long to deal with it but that's how things unfolded.
I know the site isn't pretty to look at but it was making it much worst!
