Ad Blocking from a webmasters perspective
I’m not going to stand on a soapbox. I won’t even put forth a different tone. I’m only posting a tidbit of information for those curious.
First and foremost, UtilityGeek.com is a pure hobby of mine. I’m literally a one man show. I run ads on it as a way to help pay for hosting, domain registration, etc - not in hopes of getting rich (trust me on that one). Using the data I have available to me I’m estimating about one-third of the sites visitors use some form of ad blocking mechanism - 33%. In my book that’s a pretty large percentage. Those same ads that are blocked are what keeps things running.
Years back I had zero ads on the site. But those times are long past. Things have changed and ads are simply a fact of life. It’s simply much too difficult to not have the site generate income for required fees. What I ask is that you make sure your ad blocker isn’t enabled for ‘utilitygeek.com.’ It is a very small way to show appreciation. I use only non-obtrusive ads on the site. There will never be pop-ups, pop-unders or any of those ridiculous text-link ads.
This also goes towards other sites you like visiting. We’re all in the same boat really.
